In-service training

This type of training, usually in the form of workshops, is important to the professional advancement of early childhood educators, who must complete 15 hours of in-service training annually to comply with the Department of Children and Families’ requirements. Under six hours of instruction, in-service training does not qualify for continuing education units, but participants do receive a certificate of completion.

Continuing Education Unit (CEU)

CEU (Continuing Education Unit) is a standardized unit of measurement used by educational institutions to record participation in non-credit, or credit-free, education programs. One CEU is awarded for every 10 hours of participation in an organized continuing education program. 145 CEUs equal one 3-credit course. CEUs do not expire.

Recipients may use them to show their interest in continuing education and career enrichment. Employers may use it as evidence of an employee’s performance capabilities or for promotion consideration.

Credit courses

We offer credit courses through our Early Childhood Program Administrator’s Institute, in collaboration with Miami Dade College. It is funded by The Children’s Trust and Early Childhood Initiative Foundation. The program opens for enrollment in June. Applications are screened in August.
